It’s been a long time in the making and fans and music critics alike have been eagerly waiting for the release of a new album from The Strokes. ‘Angles’ their fourth studio album is that body of music and it doesn’t disappoint. The album opens very strongly with ‘Machu Picchu’ and is followed by the happy and upbeat sounds of the first single ‘Under Cover Of Darkness’. There is a very 80’s influence in quite a few of the songs such as ‘Two Kinds Of Happiness’ and ‘Games’ with it’s synth and distant sounding vocals that add a new depth to the sound of that era. ‘Taken For A Fool’ is a catchy sing a long tune perfect for the summer and the slow sounds of ‘Call Me Back‘ take the album to a softer side where the focus is very much on the vocals with only the sound of the guitar to back them up. The opening of ‘Metabolism’ is fast paced and the guitars sound very reminiscent of Muse and finishing up on a softer note with ‘Life Is Simple In The Moonlight’ a song which would be perfect to relax and forget about the stresses of life to. From listening to ‘Angles’ it sounds a lot more like they are back to their old selves sounding more like their first album ‘Is This It’, it’s The Strokes back to their best.
