As I’ve said many times before I’ve been on the lookout for new music to listen to, so I’ve compiled a list of artists that I’ve been listening to recently to share with you.
Lone
Lone, real name Matt Cutler, is from Nottingham and has created plenty of music over the past few years. I first heard of him when Friendly Fires mentioned him in an interview, and he has also remixed their track ‘Live Those Days Tonight’. A brilliant remix that got me intrigued in his music. His music is grand and encapsulates a multitude of different genres/sounds. It’s something different and refreshing in a pretty stale music industry.

SBTRKT
I saw SBTRKT last year supporting Friendly Fires and I loved them. I immediately downloaded the album, and as debut’s go it’s an amazing one! Honestly, it blew me away how good it is and that’s why it ended up in my top 10 albums list of last year. Live, it’s a full on set and the masks have become their trademark style. One to go and see live for sure.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs
One of my new favourites. I love his music and remixes, his mix of sounds and styles are brilliant. His live shows look amazing and he’s created his own aesthetic with the head pieces he wears onstage. His new album is due out soon so get listening to that because I’m sure it’ll be one of the albums of the year.

Theophilus London
Theophilus London is from Brooklyn and makes some amazing music. His song ‘I Stand Alone’ is probably one of my most played for a while. His rap lyrics mixed with an older and more stripped back sound. I really like his music and I think he brings something different to this genre. He’s one to look out for and his album ‘Timez Are Weird These Days’ is out now.

Tensnake
I first heard of Tensnake through a ridiculously amazing remix he did of ‘Hurting’ by Friendly Fires, it is probably my favourite Friendly Fires remix. A DJ from Hamburg, his stuff is disco and house inspired, mixing the old with the new.

Azari & III
A well established dance/electronic band from Canada, they’ve built up a good career over the years creating music that takes all the best from dance culture past and present. They have also done plenty of remixes and collaborations as well. An act that if you are not already listening to then you should be, they are playing some festivals in the UK this year so go and see them if you can.

Bastille
Bastille is one of my new favourites. I saw a post on Tumblr about him and it linked to his website where there was a link of a free download of his EP. Dan Smith was the sole member creating music in his bedroom for 2 years before going out on the road recently with his band. His music mixes in his love of film with references, soundtracks and quotes scattered throughout. For me, it’s something completely different, and just brilliant. I downloaded his new EP ‘Overjoyed’ and I’m looking forward to listening to it. Unfortunately, I missed him when he played in Sheffield last week but until I get the chance to see him, I’ll be listening to plenty of his music. A brilliant artist who I definitely recommend you check out.
