Ever since I got back home just over 2 weeks ago I have been catching up on all the new music that has been released that I’ve not had chance to listen to yet and there are some amazing new discoveries I have made that I thought I would share with you all here in one post.
Firstly, my favourite band and pretty much resident act on my blog they appear that much, Friendly Fires are set to release their Late Night Tales compilation album at the beginning of November and I for one am excited [no surprise there]. Late Night Tales is a pretty well respected album series and many artists have been asked to do these including Groove Armada, The Flaming Lips and Belle and Sebastian. The albums include covers, new tracks and usually a spoken story at the end and the Friendly Fires album features my favourite actor Benedict Cumberbatch reading the story. Favourite band and favourite actor all in one album = amazing! It’s safe to say I’ve had my copy on pre-order since early September. The other week Zane Lowe played the first song from it a cover of Eberhard Schoener and Sting’s 1978 song ‘Why Don’t You Answer’, personally I’ve never heard the original but I like this version. I imagine the album is going to be full of some obscure stuff so if you are a fan of Friendly Fires or just want something new to listen to then the album is out on 5th November.
Annie Mac is one of my favourite DJ’s along with Zane Lowe they are the reasons I would love and really want to be a radio DJ. Listening to her show on Sunday night it was full of brilliant songs. Firstly going to mention Dan from Bastille’s Bedtime mix which was awesome and he chose Hold On by SBTRKT which is my favourite SBTRKT song too, give it a listen on iPlayer, it’s around 1 hour 30 in. So, one of the songs she played was by a guy who goes by the name of Flume, I’d never heard this before but I really liked the song a lot so I thought I’d post it on here for you all to have a listen to.
If you’ve not already heard of it then Deep Shit is the name Jack Savidge from Friendly Fires and Edwin Congreave from Foals coined for their club nights and now record label. They’ve put on a few club nights in London at first and then in other cities in the UK. They are djing in Manchester tomorrow night as part of the Halloween Warehouse Project night curated by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, it’s an amazing line up and I wish I was going. Anyway, to promote the last club night the pair created a mix for i-D magazine, if you have a spare hour you should definitely give it a listen as it is brilliant.
Speaking of Edwin and the Deep Shit record label, their very first single was released earlier this week which by Edwin called ‘Heal’. I’ve been listening to it for a while and a lot. I ordered my vinyl copy of it the other and that comes with an exclusive Redux version, there are only 300 pressings being made of these so act fast if you want one. So that is my little round up of new music and stuff I’ve been listening to lately, I hope you enjoy and find something new and/or different to listen to. Oh and my final word, Tame Impala’s new album, Lonerism, is absolutely brilliant, a total modern psychadelic musical masterpiece in my eyes and I’m completely looking forward to seeing them next week at Leadmill.
