music update #6

It’s really not long at all until the end of this year and the start of 2013 so here come all of the end of year lists and the music press are obviously preoccupied with their albums and singles of 2012 lists. I’m in the middle of creating my own now which I will put up on here later on this month. But what have been the albums and singles of the year? Which bands have really ruled 2012? What are your choices?

Also, the BBC’s Sound of 2013 longlist has been announced featuring acts such as AlunaGeorge, King Krule and The Weeknd. A title which if won seems to have some sort of effect on the winners, more radio airplay for a start. It’s a respected list to see what should be big next year and what we should be listening to. What do you think of this year’s longlist? Are there any acts you think missed out?

The last week or so has seen some massive music news being announced. I told you in my last music update post about Kraftwerk playing Sonar festival next summer and now they have announced a residency at Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern in London for next year. The band will be playing for 8 nights between 6th and 14th February. Each night will see them play a different album from their back catalogue in full. It is the same premisce as their 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 shows in New York last year. The band will start with 1974’s ‘Autobahn’ album on 6th and finish up on their last album ‘Tour de France’ from 2003. These are the first shows the band have played in London since 2004 and having gone on sale last week I assume that they have already sold out which is completely understandable. If you are lucky enough to be attending one or more of these gigs next year then I, for one, am extremely jealous of the amazing time you are going to have.

Also, in terms of massive news from last week, My Bloody Valentine announced a tour for next March. The mini tour will see them play Glasgow, Manchester and London, tickets went on sale on Friday and sold out fast, prompting the band to announce a second date for London which I assume has also sold out by now. With a new tour, it only makes the music press and fans more impatient for this new album that has been promised and it seems like it is nearly complete if reports from NME are true. So My Bloody Valentine return next year, 22 years after their last album with fans waiting to except them back. A headline slot at UK festival seems more than likely right now, let’s hope this happens.

This week’s track is one from a band I absolutely love and have loved for years. It’s their new single and it is insanely catchy, I’ve been singing it for weeks. Their new tour for next year went on sale on Saturday, they have released a biography and greatest hits album this year and had a new TV show on ITV on Saturday, even though they haven’t released an album of new material this year it’s been a busy year for the McFly boys.

Track of the week: Love Is Easy by McFly.

Also, if you haven’t already seen it this is McFly doing Gangnam style which is absolutely hilarious, it definitely deserves a watch.
