So there are my opinions, let’s see if I’m right and it sways more towards who I want to win or who I think will win or if I’m completely wrong. I think this year’s nominations are a little better than previous years with them taking more notice of some other genres bar just pop and a bit of indie and a bit of dance/rnb.

I do still have a couple of issues with it for example the indie and other genres on offer are the more commercial areas of the genres for example Alt-J winning the Mercury Prize and Mumford and Sons being the more household name indie than the other stuff that may be less well known to the masses but are artists that bloggers and journalists love and have a huge following and are making ground-breaking new sounds. I also think that a couple of the albums nominated are not really as deserving of a nomination as some brilliant albums from last year have been ignored. I’m not just saying this because I love the band but The Maccabees should have been nominated somewhere in these categories, their album is brilliant showcasing the best of British music at the moment and they are a brilliant live band so I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t even get a mention.

I guess this is a step in the right direction though, let’s hope that they keep including more acts and more genres and giving them the recognition that they deserve.
