After the snow and cold of the last couple of weeks, festival line up’s being announced has that extra bit of excitement making you think of summer and the amazing times you will have and hopefully some warmth and sun. No such weather worries for the two festivals who announced line up’s last week as they are in much warmer climes than we are over here. Firstly, Barcelona’s Primevera’s brilliant bill featuring headliners Blur, My Bloody Valentine and Wu Tag Clan. As well as the newly reformed The Postal Service, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Crystal Castles, Disclosure, METZ, The Vaccines, Jessie Ware, Death Grips and loads more amazing new and old acts. It makes me wonder why I’ve not already booked a ticket to Barcelona.
Also, Coachella, for the past few years Coachella has put on pretty amazing line up’s and this year is no different. This year’s headliners are The Stone Roses, Blur, Pheonix and Red Hot Chili Peppers with Alt-J, Grizzly Bear, New Order, The XX, Modest Mouse, Passion Pit, Beach House, Vampire Weekend Wu Tag Clan, Tame Impala, Biffy Clyro and many many more playing. Again it’s making me wonder why I’m not already there with a line up as brilliant as that. If you are going to Coachella or Primevera then just know that I am extremely jealous of you.
A couple of days ago The Strokes dropped a new song on the world without much warning it was just there on their website [where you can go to download it for free]. We already knew they had new material ready to be listened to and it had been confirmed last week that they are the release a new album this year. However, the new track has been greeted with a mixed reaction from fans and journalists alike. With some hating it and some loving it and a few indifferent straddlers, personally I quite like it although I do think the beginning of the song is really weird and not necessarily my favourite once you get past that it’s a pretty decent song. Not the best Strokes song I’ve ever heard and you definitely can’t judge what the album is going to be like after hearing only one song so here’s hoping the rest of the album is more like the second half of that song than the first.
Last week, Foals posted their new video for ‘My Number’ online. I really love this song a hell of a lot, it’s catchy as hell and a pretty perfect song in my eyes. I loved Inhaler for it’s heavy guitar riff and pure brillance but this is just as brilliant if not more so but in a completely different way. I’m really excited for the release of Holy Fire now, I know it’s been leaked already and loads of people have listened to it but I’m waiting until I have the actual album here to listen to it, I’m just wishing for February 11th to hurry up.
Finally, as it is pretty much the end of January now [where the hell has that month gone?!] I thought I’d make a little playlist of songs I’ve been listening to this month. Some new bands/songs and some older bands that I’ve just been listening to a lot. I hope you enjoy!
