Another week and another music update post from me, a lot happened in last week’s music update with announcements and events happening left right and centre. This past week has been a little bit quieter but still plenty of brilliant things to write about. Last week saw the beginning of Kraftwerk‘s residency at Tate Modern. The band will be playing a different album from their back catalogue every night of their 8 night long residency. Starting off last Wednesday with first album ‘Autobahn’ and finishing up on Thursday 14th with their last album 2003’s ‘Tour De France’. The band have not played in London since 2004 and understandably and expectedly the shows sold out very fast. From pictures and reviews that have surfaced online over the past few days of shows each night has been brilliant with the second night’s show for ‘Radio-Activity’ including a 3D visual showcase for those in attendance. I, for one, am pretty damn jealous that I haven’t managed to go to at least one of the shows down in London because I imagine that they are a brilliant spectacle that probably won’t be repeated. If you have managed to get tickets for the final few nights then I’m sure you’ll have a brilliant time but for me I’ll do what someone suggested online the other day and just stick one of their albums on from Spotify.
6Music announced the line up for their Live At Maida Vale week as well, featuring the likes of Foals, Everything Everything, Richard Hawley, The Cribs, Roots Manuva, Palma Violets and more set to perform there over the week of 9th February to 15th February. All performances will be streamed live online and you can listen on the radio too. With plenty of good acts featured across that week there is no wonder that 6Music is fast becoming the radio station that people prefer for hearing about new music.
It has been announced that Paul Epworth has won the Producer of the Year award at the BRIT’s this year. I’m not overly sure why this award is announced before the actual ceremony, it would be nice for it to happen on the night and let the producers have a little bit of recognition for once but I guess this is the way the awards ceremony works. The man behind some of Florence and Adele’s biggest hits won the award and I think it’s quite well deserved as he definitely is one of the best producers in Britain at the moment that has managed to make a name for himself overseas by producing such brilliant tracks with great artists.
Chvrches announced last week that they will be releasing a new EP next month. The EP entitled ‘Recover’ after one of the tracks is due for release on 25th March via Virgin Records. There will be a limited edition 12″ vinyl released on 20th April as well for this year’s Record Store day. It’s a great synth filled pop song that is bound to propel the band further into the public’s consciousness. The single ‘Recover’ is out today on iTunes.
MT Wolf released their new track ‘Hypolight’ last week that went up on Clash’s website exclusively for 24 hours before popping up everywhere else. It’s a brilliant track in the same field of ambient dreamy sounds that they created on their ‘Life Sized Ghosts’ EP but you can tell that this is a step forward for the band who are creating some absolutely stunning music. The track is taken from their new EP of same name which is to be released in the spring.
Finally, Foals new album ‘Holy Fire’ is out today! As I said the other day, it is my most anticipated release of the entire year. If there is one album you should go out and buy this week then make it this one.
