tracks of the week #34

All the acts this week are ones that have been working hard, playing gigs and releasing music online for the past year or so and are now really starting to capture the attention of many. I discovered all these in one form or another this year and instantly fell in love with the sound they were creating and the lyrics they were singing. For me, I think they are all acts to look out for next year as I can see them all making bigger and bigger waves in the music world.

Superfood – Bubbles

After seeing these guys support PEACE earlier this year, I was impressed instantly. I’d never heard of them before but they had good songs and put on a good set. Since then they have grown in popularity and become more well known throughout the music media as well as online. ‘Bubbles’ is the latest track from the band and yet again showcases the band’s skills with guitar hooks, a sing a long chorus and a slight scuzzy 90’s indie vibe running throughout. You can download the single for free from their website now too.

Liz Lawrence – Bedroom Hero

After being sent a press release about this girl recently and writing a new music piece about her, I have genuinely become a huge fan of her music and that is why she is being featured again on the blog. This one is another acoustic guitar based track from Lawrence but with a catchy edge, full of melody and rhythm. All wrapped up perfectly with her storytelling lyrics and soulful vocals. This girl is definitely one to keep an eye on for 2014.

Gambles – So I Cry Out

A beautiful, acoustic track tinged with a retro sound and echoed, lining vocals. With such minimal, gentle sounds from the guitar it really draws your attention to the vocals and particularly the lyrics and the emotion in them. This is a really wonderful track from the New York singer/songwriter and you can download this track from iTunes now.

Calgary – Fight Fire With Fire

A brilliant mix of indie and pop with brilliant melodies and a catchy edge, this one will have you swaying along to the infectious rhythm. As a three piece who have just recently released a 4 track EP, these are definitely one to watch out for and you can find out more about the band on their Facebook page.
