The Throwback Tuesday weekly post is a opportunity for me to revisit the good, cheesy, forgotten or essential parts of music, film, tv and books from my childhood, the past few years or the generations/eras/works of art that have influenced my life in some way.
This week, it’s a music throwback with a track from the 90’s and also a very recent and absolutely brilliant cover of it.
Corona – Rhythm of the Night
Having been born in 1991 and this single being released in 1993, it was a track I heard a lot as a child and would subconsciously sing/dance along to. It’s a good dance track I’m not going to lie and it has stood the test of time in many ways and is still something I hear a lot today on the commercial radio station my mum listens to. With a good beat and a sing a long chorus, it is easy to see why it has become such a mainstay in the world of music and even influencing some acts as well as being covered by the likes of German dance group Cascada back in 2012 and most recently by the UK’s own Bastille who covered the song and have had a massive hit with it.

As I said this has been a massive hit for the band after being released a few months ago, it found it’s way into the higher reaches of the charts. For a band that had already had an impressive 2013, it was just the icing on the cake for them. After first covering and releasing this song back in 2012 on their first ‘Other People’s Heartache’ mixtape of covers and track reworkings, it was something that longtime fans of the band fell in love with straight away and became one of the bands biggest singles at that point. From then they have reworked it slightly for their debut album ‘Bad Blood’ released in March last year, released it as a single where it charted at number 2 in the UK and it has become a firm favourite live being used as one of the tracks to close the set along with their now band anthem ‘Pompeii’.

Proof of a great track is not only a hit but one that stays around for years and the fact that is has been a hit for another act as well when they covered in only goes to show that ‘Rhythm of the Night’ is a must listen to regardless of your opinion of either act.
