ootd: velvet & tartan

Coat – Boohoo Boutique / Skirt – Primark / Top – Ark / Boots – F&F at Tesco / Bag – Matalan / Necklace – Primark / Watch – Casio

I wore this outfit for my mum’s birthday meal a few weeks ago as something dressy enough for a meal out but not too much. It was one of those days where I just had no idea what I wanted to wear and after pulling nearly everything out of my wardrobe but I finally settled on this. Mainly because I didn’t have much time left to try everything I own on but I think I did pretty alright regardless.

The outfit features 3 of my absolute favourite purchases from last year, my velvet skirt which I was after for so long and it was literally the greatest feeling ever when I found this perfect one in Primark. It’s become a bit of a wardrobe staple for me since then and velvet is a fabric I love creating such lovely textures and interesting rich colours. The top is another one, slightly cropped but not too much. It’s quite thick so is perfect for keeping you warm even in the winter months but would also be perfect in spring and summer with the bright florals. The coat is the final favourite, as soon as I saw this coat on Boohoo’s website I knew it was the new coat for me. At the time I bought it I’d not bought a new winter coat in ages so it was about time I changed that and the tartan with pleather sleeves, long cut and good fit made it the one to purchase. I’ve since purchased another winter coat and fake leather biker jacket but this is the perfect posh coat, winter coat and transitional coat and totally on trend with the tartan.

The outfit was quite dark for me so I thought I’d brighten it up with some new mustard coloured tights from H&M, as I’ve said before they are my new go to for tights with lovely colours, a great fit and plenty of warmth regardless of denier. The boots, though heels, are insanely comfy with the bouncy rubber heel and the raspberry Matalan bargain bag which I’m sure you are sick of the sight of by now as it’s been in pretty much every single outfit post this year but it has become my day-to-day staple. Simple jewellery with the statement necklace from Primark and simple make-up just my usual eyeliner, mascara but with a bold lip. The colour is ‘Oxford Wine’ and is one of the Avon lipsticks, relatively cheap but the formula is so good, applies well, stays on all day even while eating, good colour build up and fast taking over my lipstick collection. This deep purple is something a couple of years ago I would never have dared to attempt being too scared of dark colours with my fair complexion but now I seem to gravitate towards the darker, richer colours and this is definitely one of my new favourites that I’m sure will see a lot of wear.
