throwback tuesday #6

The Throwback Tuesday weekly post is a opportunity for me to revisit the good, cheesy, forgotten or essential parts of music, film, tv and books from my childhood, the past few years or the generations/eras/works of art that have influenced my life in some way.

This week I’m going to draw attention to a film that I only watched a couple of weeks ago much to my own stupidity of not watching it sooner but ever since watching it I have become totally obsessed with how good it is and have watched it a good few times since my first viewing.

The film I’m talking about here is: Avengers Assemble

The film starts with everyone’s favourite slightly evil, very sarcastic and ever so sassy demi-god Loki arriving on Earth in order to steal the Tesseract, a device who’s energy and power can create gateways between worlds, in order to open a gateway which would let his army in so he can take over the world. With the threat to the world happening right now Nick Fury the director of SHIELD gets a team of superheroes together – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, later named The Avengers, in order to save the world and get the Tesseract back from Loki. Typical superhero movie storyline.

Though what makes it different is the characters, each superhero has their own very defined character with different humours, different ways of acting and speaking and it makes for plenty of hilarious moments, brilliant put downs and some amazing fight scenes, Iron Man vs. Thor is a particular highlight. And don’t even get me started on when The Hulk finally gets his hands on Loki. Also, it’s a brilliant cast full of some of the best actors of recent years and ones that have already had a very good career. They all play their characters so well and mash well together to create a strangely believable atmosphere, with a cast of actors that includes Samuel L Jackson, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Hiddleston and Scarlett Johannson then I guess it was always going to be great but they really are so excellent in their roles.

I’m a big fan of superhero movies, sci-fi, comics etc and this for me is one of my favourite movies I have seen. Admittedly before it I had only seen Thor and Thor: The Dark World [now I get all those ‘that’s for New York references’ towards Loki too] but Iron Man, Captain America and The Hulk are definitely on my next to watch list.

Even if you aren’t a massive fan of comics that doesn’t matter as it’s not overly geeky and if you’ve never seen any of the other Marvel films that doesn’t matter either as honestly there isn’t many in-jokes so you can follow the plot line easily. It’s a brilliant film, made really well with some insanely good fight scenes and you do feel a little bit spoilt with so many superheroes all at once. For me this is one of my favourite films and it does definitely have that future classic tag written all over it.

Below is the trailer for the movie and it is definitely worth a watch especially if you have never seen it before:
