With festival season so nearly upon us, the festivals that take place towards the beginning of the season are now finalising their bills and in terms of Sound City’s offerings this year it is a very good bill. With acts such as Kodaline, chart toppers Clean Bandit, Gruff Rhys and Fuck Buttons already confirmed, it was already pretty impressive but with the announcement of surprise headliner The Kooks this week, things just got even bigger for 2014.
The Kooks and their indie sound will be special guests for the closing night party on 3rd May which will be taking place at the iconic DIY underground car park stage which will be transformed into an industrial music venue. It is the very same place were Bastille played last year to a small audience of just 800.
This latest announcement comes just a week after 75 bands were added including acts such as Jagwar Ma, Public Service Broadcasting, East India Youth, Glass Animals, Factory Floor and many more. It completes a bill which is hugely diverse taking in rock, pop, indie and dance and matching big names like Albert Hammond Jr from The Strokes with lesser well known talent like Say Lou Lou and Girls Names.
But it’s not just the performers that are a big draw for the bill, it is also the guest speakers which features the likes of John Cale, Thurston Moore and headliner Gruff Rhys among many others who will be taking part in talks on topics ranging from football to music to fashion.
With so much on offer over the weekend from 1st to 3rd May, it is more than worth it’s £55 price tag for the weekend ticket to just see the bands or £120 for the music and the conferences. You can also purchase day tickets for any of the days for only £33 and with acts having already been confirmed for their day playing the festial you will know which acts you are getting in advance.
