throwback tuesday #17

The Throwback Tuesday weekly post is a opportunity for me to revisit the good, cheesy, forgotten or essential parts of music, film, tv and books from my childhood, the past few years or the generations/eras/works of art that have influenced my life in some way.

This week’s throwback post looks towards the big screen for inspiration with one of my favourite films ever being the subject of this post. Hitting screens back in 2006, this film adaptation of the book of the same name is still as brilliant and relevant now as it was when it was released. I am of course talking about the absolutely wonderful The Devil Wears Prada.

Starring Anne Hathaway as the rather plain, journo wannabe Andrea Sachs, she finds herself thrown into the super competitive and extremely bitchy world of fashion and fashion magazines as she sets out to further her career getting a job as a PA to editor in chief of Runway, Miranda Priestley played by the brilliant Meryl Streep in what has become one of her most famous roles. Battling her sharp-tongued boss, her quite bitchy and slightly shallow co-worker Emily played fantastically well by Emily Blunt, her changing relationship with her long term boyfriends and friends and the many challenging roles thrown at her by her boss and the job, it makes for a film which takes in happy moments, sad times, love, loss and plenty of opportunities to laugh and cry.

The entire cast of the film play their parts brilliantly and because of this they gained plenty of praise from the general public and critics alike as well as fashion insiders. Meryl Streep will forever be the greatest part of that entire film for me but as a film I have watched countless times it’s something I have never gotten bored of and I can’t see me getting bored of it any time soon either. I’ve never actually got around to reading the book but it’s something I would like to read to see how true to the book the film actually is.

Regardless, this is one of my all time favourite films and though I’m not a massive fan of rom-com’s this is a big exception. I’m sure you’ve probably all seen the film at least once but if not check out the trailer for the film below:
