So I’m going to attempt my first ever Face of the Day style post, I’m no expert when it comes to beauty blogging or how to apply make up I just do what works for me and always have. I didn’t start wearing make up until I was 16 and even then it was only eyeliner. Foundation, eyeshadow and lipstick was a foreign concept to me until I started university so everything I know is pretty basic and common sense but this routine has works for me and has done for years now. I swap and change the products over months and days but essentially it’s the same process and I thought it would be a nice idea to share it with you guys.
Firstly, primer which stupidly I forgot to photograph but I currently use the Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro which I’ve used for around a year or so now and has definitely improved how long my make up lasts throughout the day. Recently I’ve started to mix it with the Simple Illuminating Radiance Cream, so I get all the benefits of a primer and a moisturiser which really looks after my skin, illuminating the slightly dull complexion I have as well as protecting my face with SPF, something my pale, easily burnt skin really needs.
Then I applied the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in Porcelain which is the first time I’ve used a liquid foundation in years and the first time I have ever used a brush to apply foundation [!]. I don’t think I did too bad of a job, the foundation itself is pretty amazing, pale enough for my ghost skin [major win], applies well and stays in place all day. When I first applied it I was worried with how shiny it made my face but a quick application of powder from Natural Collection, which I use all the time, made my skin perfectly matte. I used less powder than normal with this foundation as it stayed in place for a lot longer, only having to touch up once or twice instead of multiple times.
For my eyes, I used my favourite eyeshadows Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr, I love these so much and use them every day. Here I used my everyday shades ‘Pink Gold’ all over the lid applied with my finger and then ‘On and On Bronze’ applied at the outer edge and blended out into the middle. Together they create a subtle yet effective look and when finished with some smudged out eyeliner [Rimmel’s Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner] it creates my favourite smokey eye look. I used two mascaras here, one for my upper lashes and one for lower. The Scandeleyes mascara from Rimmel I love but I’ve found you can’t really use it on your lower lashes at all but for adding volume and length to upper lashes it’s perfect. For lower lashes I used my everyday mascara, SuperExtend from Avon, that just adds a subtle bit of colour and length, together these mascaras work perfectly.
Finally, I finished with my new favourite lipstick from Kate Moss’ Rimmel collection, in the shade of ‘Kiss of Life’ [the Friendly Fires fan in my fangirled if I’m honest] and it is quite literally the best red I’ve ever found. It’s such a classic, slightly blue toned red that just looks good on anyone. I love a red lip but I feel some in my collection are sometimes too bright or too dark to wear with certain outfits or at certain times of day. This, however, I know I could wear at any time of day and it would just look good. Kate Moss’ collection for Rimmel is brilliant, the lipsticks apply well and last a hell of a long time. I’m ridiculously happy with this purchase, it’s affordable, of such great quality and it’s a colour I know I will wear a hell of a lot.
So that’s my usual everyday make-up look, everything I’ve mentioned here I use every single day [bar the lipstick which obviously changes colour depending on mood, outfit etc] and I have no plans to change any of the products I use any time soon as they all work so well for me. I vouch for how good they are and they are all super affordable, let me know if you’ve tried any of the products mentioned and your opinions of them.
