American/German Folk Singer Anja McCloskey will be back with her second album ‘Quincy Who Waits’ towards the end of July and with the build up to that really starting to take hold now, I’m bringing you guys the wonderful lead single ‘Too Many Words’ from that second album on the blog today:
McCloskey’s harmonious vocals take us through the highs and lows of the lyrics and music perfectly throughout. The music itself is folk inspired but with a grander carebat style sound hitting us in moments of the track from the French sounding accordion and the fast pace lyrics of the verses. The lyrics themselves speak of a love and relationship going wrong with lines such as “it was one too many words for us” and “I spent insignificant hours waiting for you to burn” portraying the emotions perfectly.
After picking up plenty of praise from her debut LP ‘An Estimation’ back in 2012 from the likes of The Art Desk, This Is Fake DIY and Q who had this to say; “Sultry folk, like a Romany gypsy cabaret show”, McCluskey is finally back with a much anticipated brand new album. Her first album was mainly built around her accordion and the alternative and folky sounds from that but this time the music and lyrics go further with different inspirations, experimental sounds and a growth in confidence lyrically from Anja herself.
With such a strong first single, this one is sure to impress fans and critics alike as well as gaining new listeners along the way and it also paves the way for what seems like it will be a brilliant follow up to her former success. The single ‘Too Many Words’ is out now and available to download from iTunes. The album will be out on 21st July, you can pre-order it from her website where you can also find out details of the upcoming shows and festival appearances in the UK for Anja and her band.
