As Tramlines 2014 nears, I thought it would only be right of me to pick out some bands and acts that I think you should check out if you are coming to the festival or if you aren’t going to be here, load up Spotify or head to YouTube and check them out that way. These acts I will either be seeing for the first time, seeing again or that I’m planning on seeing and hopefully there will be no clashes.
There are plenty of amazing acts on this year’s bill and something for absolutely everyone’s taste in music, so check out the line up now. With such a good line up it did make it a little difficult to pick the best to feature so there are many acts I’ve left out just narrowing it down to the best and the ones I want to check out the most, slightly selfish of me but what can I say I know which acts I want to check out.
Deap Vally
American female rock/punk duo, Deap Vally, will be bringing their brand of heavy drums, chugging riffs yet catchy tracks to Sheffield for this year’s Tramlines Festival. Personally, I can’t wait as I absolutely adore this band. I found out about them last year, then saw them at Leeds Festival where they were absolutely amazing and since then I have been a huge fan of their sound. They are one of those bands I look at and instantly wish I was as cool as them [I have the same feelings towards Haim] and with their punk attitude and energetic onstage performances it’s easy to see why so many would love them.

Funeral For A Friend
This South Wales quintet are a band I have loved for a very very long time and are now quite the veterans of the alternative scene that sparked out of the UK in the early to mid 00’s. The band have been through plenty of line up changes and may not be as big as they once were but there is no denying the high standard of a lot of their back catalogue. For old times sake I’ll be checking these guys out and hoping that they play a fair amount of tracks from the ‘Casually Dressed And In Deep Conversation’ and ‘Hours’ albums.

We Were Evergreen
Parisian indie-pop trio, We Were Evergreen, are a booking on this year’s bill that I am more than excited about. Their catchy melodies and rhythms that make you want to dance are surely going to go down a treat with anyone who manages to catch their set. With a brand new album ‘Towards’ only just released and 3 very good EP’s before it to choose from, there will be plenty of great material for the band to choose from all perfectly combining their folky roots, electro sounds and pop hooks.

Woman’s Hour
This London based four piece are a very new find for me after going through the bill for Tramlines and checking them out but they are a very welcome arrival to my music collection too. With a shoegaze feel to their music and a throwback edge, these guys are creating music influenced by some greats of years gone by but brought up to date perfectly for 2014. Harmonious vocals, gentle drums and guitar riffs and excellent use of ambient synths are the order of the day here which will make for a wonderful festival moment. Having just released their debut album ‘Conversations’, which has received plenty of praise from the music press, it seems like this will be the perfect time to catch the band before they really take off.

Lone
Nottingham based electronic musician and producer Lone aka Matt Cutler will be bringing his mix of house, electro and ambient to the Steel City over the course of the weekend. Going solo in 2007, Cutler has worked tirelessly to create a sound that he is happy with and that is catching the attention of many. Since the release of 2012’s ‘Galaxy Garden’ album he’s been on many people’s radar and with a new album set to drop soon as well, it seems things are going very well for him. Make sure you check out his set, it’s surely going to be a highlight of the weekend.

Slow Club
Sheffield’s very own boy/girl duo Slow Club will be heading back home for a show in their city on the closing day of the festival. The pair both play plenty of instruments between them and this helps them to create a wonderful and quite stunning indie/folk sound that has captured the attention of many in the UK, Europe, Australia and Japan. Becoming somewhat of a festival veteran pair after playing the likes of Glastonbury, Latitude and Green Man festival in the past, the duo will undoubtedly put on a good show at Tramlines. Their sound is perfect for the festival setting with great rhythms that will make you want to dance, sing along choruses and layers of harmonies from the vocals to the guitar hooks. With their third album ‘Complete Surrender’ being released on 14th July, just a couple of weeks before the set, it’s sure to be a special show for the band and the hometown crowd.
