Every month, Mixtape Couture will be showcasing and shining a light on the talent that can be found in Sheffield. From bands to fashion brands, shops to restaurants, events to exhibitions, if it’s in Sheffield and it’s worth you knowing about then I will be letting you know. Whether you are a Sheffield resident yourself or are planning a visit one day [which I highly recommend] then hopefully this feature will help you to know where to visit, what to do and what’s going on in the Steel City.
One of Sheffield’s newest additions is a coffee shop making all the right impressions and really has already become one of my favourite places [if not favourite place] to go to in the city centre for coffee. Steam Yard only opened a couple of months ago, situated in Aberdeen Court on Division Street, but every time I have been in so far it’s been packed out with Sheffield folk looking to get their fix of good coffee and soak up the chilled atmosphere on offer in there.
Opening in one of the better parts of Sheffield city centre has clearly been a good move for the guys and managing to get space on Division Street these days really is an accomplishment as it is full of cool boutiques and bars. This coupled with their social media interaction and their excellent coffee, brilliant food and wonderful service gaining them a number of good reviews and building up a great reputation already has seen them succeed so far. Something that I can’t see failing them any time soon either.
The coffee really is spectacular there, it is honestly the best coffee I have had in Sheffield. Super strong yet smooth and not bitter. Their food is great with an array of treats from pastries to sandwiches that you can tell are not the pre-packaged fayre you’ll find in coffee chains. There is also a very good selection of soft drinks including my favourites Fentimans and their vintage inspired English drinks. The atmosphere really is chilled and lovely, no crying kids or business man chatting loudly on a phone here just groups of friends catching up or place for you to sit and do some work in the quieter cafe.
With a great decor, very reasonable prices, great customer service and free water available to all customers, it really does add something a little more special to the usual coffee shop experience we have become accustomed to in the chain cafes that have taken over Sheffield in recent years. As much as I love Costa and Starbucks for certain chilled drinks, when it comes to coffee and good atmosphere Steam Yard will be my destination of choice from now on.
