Today I bring you a wonderful new single from a band that hails from Tennessee. Yumi and the System is a rock duo made up of vocalist Amy and lead guitarist and founding member Ben, both of whom use their influences from the worlds of indie, pop, punk and rock to create a great rock meets indie sound with a pop catchiness and filthy edge to it.
From the very start you can tell ‘Day of the Tiger’ really is something absolutely amazing from the dank riffs and when the vocals, which master the line between having the rock star authority and a lethargic, almost nonchalant attitude to them absolutely perfectly, come in it reminds you of Garbage in sound but brought bang up to date for 2014. The grungy guitars and murky bass lines are mixed up with swirling guitars that squeal, a steady rhythm from the drums and those intermittent electronic sounds. This really is a brilliant track and I absolutely adore this band’s sound.
This track is taken from the pair’s debut album ‘Wonders of Origin’ which is to be released this month and was produced by Lincoln Parish, the man behind some of Cage The Elephant’s work. With such a great sound it is only a matter of time before these guys become an act that you will be hearing more and more about online and in magazines, so make sure you check them out now!
