The morning after the Kasabian gig and after one of the worst night’s sleep in a hotel ever, me and mum ventured out for some food before our train left at 11. Not sleeping well and being up early has it’s perks though as you can wander a little further for some food and with our hotel being right next to the station and a 5 minute walk from the new Trinity Leeds shopping centre we decided to head to the shopping centre for some food in one of it’s restaurants. We arrived at Trinity just after 9 and for a Saturday near Christmas it was surprisingly quiet, we headed up to the top floor to Giraffe who I know do amazing breakfasts from past experience.
When we walked in it was pretty much empty but that soon changed over the course of the hour or more we were there. We sat down and browsed the menu, there is something about a quiet restaurant that gives you that more relaxed dining feel. When it came to ordered I ordered the veggie breakfast, a flat white and a pineapple juice while mum went for a bacon sandwich, a decaf coffee and a apple juice. The food arrived in suitable time and we got straight into the breakfast goodness, the veggie breakfast came with beans, sausages [I’m guessing Linda McCartney, my faves], sourdough toast, avocado, mushrooms [very minimal fat as well, winner!] and eggs with a choice of fried, scrambled or poached and I opted for the latter with poached eggs being my absolute favourite. Everything on the plate was cooked to perfection, like I said no fat on the mushrooms, perfect eggs, no burnt toast and those amazing veggie sausages.
I devoured my breakfast and set myself up for the rest of the day and the train back to Sheffield. Quick note that the coffee was also amazing, I had two and both were made to perfection. The service in there was brilliant and even as things started to get busy towards the end of our meal, we were still served quickly and efficiently. I’d recommend Giraffe to anyone looking for a decent breakfast from a chain restaurant, I’ve never been there for lunch or dinner yet but I plan on paying them a visit in the near future. With something to suit everyone from meat eaters to veggies as well as gluten free options, there is big breakfasts and healthy alternatives like porridge and museli too. Next time you are on the lookout for a good breakfast or brunch, you won’t go far wrong paying Giraffe a visit.
Giraffe is situated in Trinty Leeds and there is also a branch in Meadowhall in Sheffield. Find out more by visiting their website or you can follow them on Twitter – @giraffetweet
