throwback tuesday #32

The Throwback Tuesday monthly post is a opportunity for me to revisit the good, cheesy, forgotten or essential parts of music, film, tv and books from my childhood, the past few years or the generations/eras/works of art that have influenced my life in some way.

So I’m probably one of the least festive people you would ever meet, I’m not a massive fan of Christmas but there are certain elements I like about it: giving and receiving presents, the food [always the food!], the way it makes everybody slightly more cheerful inbetween bouts of stressed shopping, wrapping and decorating and Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’. Yes, a Christmas song I actually really like, along with Fairytale of New York’, and when it comes on instead of rolling my eyes or trying to leave the shop/turn the radio over, I will actually sing and dance along to it.

I think the reason I love this song so much is because a) it’s a great pop song that just happens to be about Christmas rather than overly Christmas ‘lets add some sleigh bells into this to make it more authentically Christmassy and b) I was brought up on the 80’s everywhere I went with parents and an auntie and uncle that where still all about the 80’s well into the mid-90’s and beyond while my 5 year old self was living up Christmas big time with presents and plenty of great dancing skills.

So this Christmas I will as usual be relistening to ‘Last Christmas’ over and over again. What will you be having on repeat this Christmas?
