Duster Coat – New Look / Shirt – Urban Outfitters / Jeans – Urban Outfitters / Brogues – New Look / Bag – Marc by Marc Jacobs / Hat – Topshop / Necklace – H&M
Over the last year or so, I’ve really been focusing on creating a wardrobe that is full of the type of clothes that will never go out of fashion, the things that work with everything, the basics and backbone of a good closet of clothes. I think I may nearly have got there, I’m still looking for the perfectly tailored pair of navy trousers though, and I think this outfit more than proves how far I have come over the last 12 months.
Everything here is fairly new, the oldest two items being the jeans from Urban Outfitters and my beautiful Marc Jacobs bag which I somehow have never featured on here before. Jeans are a staple of every man and woman’s wardrobe and these although technically jeggings are my most favourite pair. I only ever wear dark blue or black jeans, I never venture to lighter side of the spectrum and I’ve grown out of my teenage phase for coloured jeans. But the dark blue and black are not only flattering but I think mix better with a multitude of different pieces.
A white shirt is obviously a wardrobe staple and this was one of my best buys from last year for sure, teaming the tailored shirt with jeans gives a more casual take on this outfit. That’s before I teamed things with my new and absolutely wonderful duster coat, something I’ve been after for a long time at a decent length, brogues and a hat. I’m not sure why I’ve never featured the bag before as it is my most prized possession and the most expensive thing I own, it’s beautiful and practical and something that will see me through years and years of use. Plan for this year: use this bag more often!
Like I said earlier I think this outfit perfectly sums up the basics of a wardrobe; jeans, white shirts, brogues, a good handbag, a tailored coat and obviously a hat. What are your wardrobe basics?
