tracks of the week #94

The Maccabees – Marks To Prove It

The brand new track from The Maccabees has been a long time coming and now that it is here, it is a very welcome return. They have changed sound a little from the ethereal beauty of last album ‘Given To The Wild’ they have now added a slightly more rock fuelled urgency to their music for the next album still unannounced in terms of name and release date. I’ve heard this track played live a couple of times at the few dates they have played and it instantly resonated with the crowd with many dancing and singing along though it was the first time they had heard it. A triumphant return that sets expectations for the new album at a big high.

Passion Pit – Lifted Up (1985)

This new track from the brilliant Passion Pit is another wonderful one. As one of my favourite bands of recent years, these guys released a wonderful album in ‘Gossamer’ and this latest release shows signs that their next full length release should be a great one. The upbeat atmosphere and catchy hooks and vocal rounds makes for a track that instantly gets stuck in your head and will surely go down a storm at this year’s festivals.
