2 Ways To Wear: The Midi Skirt

Having not done one of these 2 Ways To Wear posts in a while since the dungarees post back in April, I thought it was definitely about time that I did another one. This time I have chosen the midi skirt, as a recent addition to my wardrobe I’ve become a big fan of the cut quite instantly. I never thought I’d like a midi skirt but I really do and I can see why they have become so popular in women’s fashion at the moment. So while I continue my love affair with the midi, I thought I’d put together a little post on a couple of ways to style up this cut of skirt.

2 Ways To Wear: Midi Skirts

I started off with picking a skirt and I opted for this horizontal stripped monochrome one from New Look. It’s a lovely skirt with the right amount of flare out, a great length and the monochrome colours making it a subtle number to style. I love striped skirts too and I’m contemplating added this one to my wardrobe at some point as it really is a lovely skirt.

Starting with the outfit on the left, I went for something a little more smart that would be perfect for interviews, work or a lunch date with the girls. I decided to carry on with the monochrome colour palette because I’m so drawn to blacks and whites at the moment as they are more classic and timeless and easier to wear than colour and pattern. The shirt is a cut out detail one from Topshop and would be a lovely wardrobe basic, a classic white shirt and a monochrome striped skirt is in my opinion a great outfit combination. Black cut out heeled sandals and floppy black fedora style hat finish the look perfectly adding style and smartness whilst drawing on the darker end of the spectrum. Finally, finishing off with a pop of colour from this gorgeous tan leather tote from New Look which I absolutely adore and truly want to own one day as it is just an absolutely perfect bag.

The outfit on the right is a much more casual take with a cropped slogan t-shirt tied at the waist which sort of makes this a little bit of a homage to 50’s Grease style women’s fasion. The look is finished off perfectly with peach slip on Vans, the perfect shoe for a casual outfit whether it includes jeans or skirts. I really love the look of this outfit as that casual 50’s style is something I’m really loving at the moment, I know it is not the current trend but I’ve never really been one to follow a trend just because it is in fashion. To complete this outfit perfectly, a bright red lip and a practical yet fashionable tan backpack from New Look are the best accompaniments. This bag may also have found its way into my basket while I was compiling this too, I mean it was in the sale what else is a girl to do.

So there you have it, my two ways to wear and style up a midi skirt. From smart to casual. I love both outfits and they are things I will draw inspiration from over the next few months while I make full use of my own collection of midi skirts. Which do you prefer?
