SBTRKT – Pharaohs
I love SBTRKT but over the past few months, listening to music for myself outside of the blog hasn’t really worked and for that reason acts like SBTRKT have been neglected in my listening habits. I heard this track of Lauren Laverne’s show on 6Music the other day and it instantly took me back to the time at university when it came out, when I used to listen to it on the bus into lectures every day. I love this track so much, like the whole of that debut album really, and it made me more determined to listen to music for myself on a daily basis something I’ve truly neglected a lot this year.
James Blake – Retrograde
As it is almost time for the Mercury Prize winner of 2015 to be announced, I thought this week I should celebrate one of my personal favourite winners on the prize. James Blake’s last album ‘Overgrown’, which this track is taken from, won the prize back in 2013 and for good reason as the album was an absolutely exceptional one. By far one of my favourite albums of 2013 and ever, lets hope this year’s winner has the same impact on somebody else like this album had on me.
