new music: Helene Greenwood

Today, I’m bringing you some new music from London songwriter Helene Greenwood. The artist has recently released her new single ‘I Say A Little Prayer’ and you can check out the video for it below:

The track is a quite beautiful one from the off with soft sounds and a mellow tone running throughout this one. Deep organ-like sounds sit against a padding drum beat all of which sit very well underneath the harmonious and ethereal vocal. There is an edge of drama here that really gives this one an urgent feel and a stunning sound.

Starting out at the age of 10, Greenwood was composing along to thunderstorms at an early age. As she got older, she studied musical composition with John Woolrich who’s contributed this about music; “music is made from hundreds of pebbles, and that each pebble has a different idea, and every pebble needs a special colour and quality to it.”

When it came to releasing her own work, her first album ‘Collectable You’ earned her a ‘one to watch’ plaudit from The Sunday Express’ Martin Townsend. While her second album explores the beauty of domestic environments as well as using the outside world as a source for material from the beach to the moon.

Her latest project is a concept-video Flat Roof House is her first release from that upcoming album ‘Exquisitely Hopeless’. The video produced by Rebecca Lennon uses archive footage and analogue distortion to depict the fragmented, floating world of a character’s thoughts from inside her kitchen.
