It’s been a big week here at Mixtape Couture because earlier this week I turned the grand old age of 25 (!). I’m not quite sure how it all happened because I honestly still think I’m 7 years old with zero responsibilities in my head but in real life I’m not.
I think turning 25 can either be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view, I’m naturally pessimistic so this should be my quarter life crisis que but I’m going to spend the next week or so looking back on what I’ve achieved and learnt over the past 25 years of my life and take this turn of another year be the springboard and catalyst for putting my life and what I want into perspective. There has never been a better time than now for me to do this and I think it will be really helpful for me personally as well. Some of this stuff I’ll probably share on the blog but I think a lot of it will be personal reflection and planning that I can take and use going forward through this year and beyond.
Whether it’s professional, personal or just for fun I think putting together a list of things I want to do, experience, achieve, make a start on, change or just give up will be hugely beneficial and they will give me something to look back on when I’m 30 to see how my priorities changed over the latter years of my twenties.
Enjoyed this delicious bean burger from Fat Hippo and lovely pink cider at Peddler Market over the weekend / Had a great time at Peddler Market this weekend, despite the pouring rain on Friday night / The sunset over Sheffield a few days ago, it was quite a stunning one! / Another great charity shop find from last week: Vanity Fair 1940’s edition added to my vintage books collection picked up from Oxfam in Nether Edge.
My five happy things from this week:
- Some great new music that my boyfriend sent across to me earlier this week which has put me in a great mood because of how bloody good the songs are. You can find them below and in this week’s tracks of the week post.
- Having a lovely evening at Peddler last Friday night, eating some delicious food, drinking some lovely drinks and just chilling out and having a great night spent with my boyfriend.
- It being my birthday this week, the best things about it is getting to see my friends and people I don’t get to see as often as I’d like. That and cake, always cake!
- Getting past the halfway mark on my digital course, it’s surprisingly easy to fit some online courses around your life which has a huge benefit for someone like me whose always busy. This course is free, gives me the opportunity to learn so much more, gain a qualification and still have time to do what I want to do. I’m more inspired than I have been in a long time to learn so much more thanks to the internet.
- Finishing Moranifesto by Caitlin Moran this week and absolutely loving every single moment of it. It’s a brilliant read, well written as we expect from Moran and funny. Whether you are into politics, feminism, activism or not, it’s still a must read for everyone. There’s some great thought-provoking pieces in there and like all her other books that have gone before I can see it being a book I return to time and time again in the future.

What I’ve Been Reading:
- A great piece by Sali Huges on The Pool about boredom and why we need to be bored more often than we are in this day and age. In order to spark the creativity we had as a child to fill our school holidays, being bored can be good for you, maybe I need to try it.
- As it was the final episode in the second series of Raised By Wolves this week, The Pool ran an in conversation piece with writers and sisters, Caitlin and Caroline Moran. It’s a great piece and it definitely gives you an insight into the show and how the ideas for the scripts came about.
