Today, I’m bringing you some new music from London four piece MassMatiks. The quartet have recently released their brand new single ‘4am’ which you can check out below.
This is the band’s second single opens calmly with soft beats drawing out and fading into silence. On top of those sits a strong vocal with an interesting twang to it and harmonious undertone. The sparse, sober feeling of the opening starts to lose its hold on the song as we progress through the verses. As we reach the chorus, the tone and tempo changes completely. A huge chorus comprises of shouted, desperate vocals, pounding drum beats and shredding guitar riffs. It’s a big slap in the face that compliments the defiant, commanding lyrical themes found in this one. A great single bound to turn heads and gain the band plenty of new fans.
The track was released ahead of their June tour with fellow rockers Rory Indiana, which they have very recently finished. The single was premiered on Punktastic, who described their new song as putting the band “firmly on the map”. British kickboxing champion, Peploe, delivers social commentary through his lyrics, he had this to say about the track. “A time when my ex would call me up, drunk and bragging that she is seeing someone else. There was this attitude that she was ‘winning’ the break up, but I soon came to realise that if she was so happy and so comfortable, then why would she need to tell me? People have experienced both sides of this story and I feel the to-the-point lyrics show the raw honesty and emotion”
There is plenty of new music still to come and more shows, including one at Old Blue Last on July 13th and they’ll be playing Y Not Festival on 21st of July. It’s an exciting time for this band at the moment, so make sure you keep an eye out for more from these guys.
