new music: Patch and the Giant

Today, I’m bringing you some new music from London folk quintet Patch and the Giant. The five piece have recently released their latest single ‘Flowers’, you can check out the video for yourself below.

The single is a beautifully, lilting wonder from the very first moments as guitars chords rise and fall gently while a wonderful vocal with a unique tone accompanies those strums. Slowly, more elements are added with more vocals, gorgeous drawn out strings and softly padding percussion. Around two thirds into the song, we pick up pace and volume as we culminate with a brilliantly defiant ending packed full of rhythms and melodies guaranteed to seeing you dancing. A great single!

The new track is taken from the band’s ‘All That We Had, We Stole’ which is due out early in 2017. As the first official release from the album, the band feel a great amount of excitement around this track. Here is what they had to say about it; “Flowers is a song about the yearning for one’s home, the feeling of detachment when you’re far away and the overall place it continues to occupy in all of us, no matter where we are.”

These five great musicians have come together to create a band which has become a well-known and exciting name in the UK alt-folk scene. After releasing their debut EP ‘The Boatswain Refuge’ back in 2013, the band have received support from the likes of BBC Radio 2, 6Music and Amazing Radio.

All this has been backed up with a packed live calendar playing festivals such as Green Man and Secret Garden Party, supporting great acts like To Kill A King and The Twilight Sad and playing venues such as Bush Hall and Scala on their own headline sets.

They’ve done the essential groundwork and now it is all building up to the next chapter which started with the release of this new single. Here’s to 2017 when Patch and the Giant release their debut album and announce a big headline tour.
