A brand new track from a newly discovered act, 2 tracks from albums I’ve been loving at the moment and a new single from one of my favourite bands of the last year. It’s fair to say my listening has been a varied as ever this week surrounding the list of albums I have lined up to review and new music posts to write. It’s only February but I already feel like this is going to be another exciting year for music.
Thumpers – Galore
The video for this track was unveiled on Monday along with the news of their debut album of the same name streaming on NPR but also the disappointing news that it will not be released in the UK until May 19th. Until then, we have this new track which again from the band has a brilliant rhythm that will get you dancing, it’s an upbeat track with plenty of layering sounds, high pitched vocals and sing a long choruses. It certainly put a smile on my face this week while I’ve been ill and I’m sure it will put a smile on your face too.
Canterbury – Satellite
This is my personal favourite from the band’s recent release ‘Dark Days’ you can read the review of my album here. As I said in that review, this track has a sudden opening with shouted vocals and fast, heavy guitars that sound almost sinister. The lyrics are sometimes sad and sometimes full of hate which crosses perfectly into the rock sound found here that has an absolutely huge sound.
Lorde – Tennis Court
The song that opens Lorde’s debut album ‘Pure Heroine’ is your first opportunity to hear the brilliance of this pop music she has created. Full of rhythm, beats, quick vocals and plenty of bass, the lyrics tell a story like all her others of life as a teenager today. I really love this song, probably more than ‘Royals’ and whatever you opinion of pop music you can’t deny Lorde is creating her own way and being bloody successful for it too.
We Were Evergreen – Daughters
I was initially unsure of whether I liked this track when it first started but as the song progressed my love for it grew. It’s synth fuelled indie pop is full of repetitive electronics, bouncy electro-bass and harmonious vocals, it has a wonderful rhythm to it and you will more than likely find yourself bobbing along to the beat. ‘Daughters’ is the first single to be taken from the trio’s debut ‘Towards’ due for release on May 5th and this particular track is officially released on March 3rd.
