After last time I went to The Old House I knew it was a place I wanted to visit more often for food with such a good menu on offer and such delicious food. Although I’d not really had chance to go back until recently and I’m so glad that I did because yet again they more than impressed me with their menu.

I’d just been to the Jon Snow talk and then done a little shopping and by this point it was nearly 1pm and me and mum were getting very hungry. We headed to Old House and straight away was greeted with smiles and told about the specials on offer that day. After giving us a decent amount of time we were asked if we’d like to order drinks while we were deciding what to eat. Mum went for a fruit cider and after much deliberation I went for a cocktail called Bramble which was absolutely lovely. Gin, lime, sugar and blackberry liqueur in a glass and it was so nice and I’m not even a big gin drinker but that cocktail may have just converted me. Though I did spot after that they had Liefmans Fruitesse on tap so I’ll have to go back for that as it’s one of the only beers I really like.
Onto food, we chose the lunch special of a burger for £5, with a choice of beef, pork and sage, veggie and chorizo [though unfortunately that wasn’t ready] which was a nice spectrum of options. I obviously opted for veggie and mum went for pork and sage as an alternative to the chorizo that she originally wanted. Chips were £1.60 extra and you could add toppings to the burger for an extra £1, me and mum both opted for cheddar but you could choose from stilton, bacon, fried egg, mushroom etc.
When the meal came I was more than impressed, the chips were huge and absolutely amazing! The coleslaw, clearly homemade, was so so nice and one of the best I’ve had. The burger itself was delicious! First of all, it’s the first burger in ages I’ve eaten with my hands as it was a perfect size unlike a lot of burger these days that are way too big to eat with your hands so that was a massive plus. But taste wise the veggie patty in the bun was so good, I don’t know what spices and ingredients were in it, I know it had carrot, chickpeas and spring onion in there, but it was so tasty and lovely that even though I was full halfway through my meal I made sure I polished off every last mouthful as it was way too nice to leave. Also, my mum loved the pork and sage burger and would recommend, apparently the sage is just the right amount to give it a nice hint but not overpower the pork.
Yet again, I would recommend The Old House to you for food, drinks or both. The menu is suitable for veggies and gluten free as well as taking in a range of foods from classic mains to sandwiches, burgers and salads. Their drinks menu is impressive with plenty of lagers, beers and ales on draught and in bottles, ciders, wine and not to mention their pretty renowned status in Sheffield for good cocktails. The only downside for me was that I was too full after my main to eat the apple and almond tart with amaretto ice cream that I had my eye on [next time though] but that’s definitely my problem not theirs.
Another brilliant meal at The Old House and I know that this time I will be back much sooner.
